Miss America on "PROFILES"

By Carol Ann Benanti

ADVANCE STAFF WRITER

It's no secret that 19 year old Kirsten Haglund, a musical theater major at the College Conservatory of Music -- captured the title of Miss America in January during a spectacular production at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Miss Haglund hopes to land on Broadway one day -- and if her impressive rendition of "Over The Rainbow" was any indication, her name could be up in lights real soon.

At the time of her win, we offered an interesting tidbit about Miss Haglund, who competed as Miss Michigan and whose grandmother, Lora Hunt, also held the state title, back in 1944.

Miss Haglund said she'll use her reign to raise awareness about eating disorders, which she revealed she has had to overcome. She will also serve as the official National Goodwill Ambassador for Children's Miracle Network. Her title translates into a $50,000 scholarship and a speaking tour that will take her across the nation during her reign.

Intrigued by the beauty queen? Mickey Burns will give you an opportunity to learn more about the 5-foot-8-inch lovely by tuning into "PROFILES", on March 26 at 7:30 p.m. aboard NYC TV channel 74 and on March 28 at 10 p.m. on SI 76.
