Today's guest is Rock -N- Roll icon Kenny Vance. In the 60's, Vance
founded "Jay and the Americans", who, along with the Beatles and the
Rolling Stones, was amongst the most successful group of that
decade.
Additionally, Vance has spent over 5 decades in the music business
as a writer, performer and music director.
Kenny
Vance has remained relevant over the years, on stage, on-screen, and
even behind the scenes. Some of his best work has been done on the
big screen, specifically as musical director on "American Hot Wax",
the late 70's film about influential disc jockey Alan Freed.
Vance
has made his mark on other period films such as "Animal House",
"Eddie and the Cruisers", and "Hairspray". In the early 80's,
Vance took another turn as a musical director, this time, for
"Saturday Night Live".
In
the 60's, Vance formed "Jay and the Americans", racking up numerous
hits such as "Cara Mia", and "This Magic Moment". They opened for
the first Beatles concert in New York in 1964 and a year later, for
the Rolling Stones' american debut.
At
63 years old, Kenny Vance is still going strong. He has been around
since the beginning of the Rock -N- Roll era and fittingly, was
included on the recent critically acclaimed "PBS Doo Wop Special".
Vance is also now immortalized, as he was inducted into the Long
Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
